Data released by the ministry of communications and information technology shows that about 100 million subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number (MNP requests) till the end of August 2013.
Rajasthan drove the demand in the north and western zone with 9.85 million requests till date followed by Gujarat(about 8.67 million). Meanwhile, in the Southern & Eastern belts, the maximum number of requests were received in Karnataka (about 11.65 million) followed by Andhra Pradesh Service area (about 9.08 million).

Mobile number portability was launched as a pilot in November 2010 and was subsequently extended throughout the country on January 20, 2011.
Portability throughout the country was announced as part of a new telecom policy in 2012 and still awaits implementation.
